Have you seen a drop of water fall into a water body? Have you seen the ripples that form and beautifully circulate through it? That is the best example of how one can bring about a positive change in the world, just like a ripple. If everyone depends on another to bring about a positive change it will never happen. It is important for us to take the first bold stand for others to follow. We should take the first step towards making a change by starting with correcting our own errors.
A very beautiful song by the famous pop legend Michael Jackson fits in perfectly with this topic. “I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways, and no message could have been any clearer, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make the change.”
The message here is loud and clear. Instead of criticizing our government or legal systems and society, each individual should have the courage to stand up for what he/she believes is right and oppose what they strongly disagree with. Every individual can bring about a positive change and we have so many phenomenal examples before us.
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W): the most fantastic example ever. He is a role model not only for all Muslims but for all of mankind. Islam has become the fastest spreading religion in the whole world and that is because we had the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) as our mentor. It is because of his humble character and wisdom that people love him, follow his guidance and will continue to do so in the future as well. No one can compare to him in the kind of changes he brought about in his time and how he continues to influence even now.
Mother Teresa: who doesn’t know mother Teresa? She was a Albanian Roman Catholic nun who became an Indian
citizen and did whatever was humanly possible to uplift the miserable conditions that the people of that country were in. She was one person and now although she is no longer among us she is still remembered and appreciated for her kind gestures.
Steve Jobs: the world cried at the loss of the greatest technology icon Steve Jobs. He is a fine example of how one man alone can make a difference. He changed the way the world uses technology and gave a new meaning to it. His death was indeed a great loss to the world of technology. While millions mourn his death many follow his example and thrive to do something as great as him.
So what if you did not come up with the idea of the iPhone or if you did not bring a revolution, every little thing counts. Just by being a good listener, helping someone in need or encouraging others to do good deeds and doing so yourself you can make a big difference. Even if you can’t change how everybody thinks you can implement the change upon yourself. Who knows, you may inspire many to do the same.
Do you feel one can make a difference to the world? What do you feel one should do to bring about a positive change in society? Are only big things considered good? Do the little deeds not count?
