Do hair and nails grow after death?
People ponder more about the dead than the living. They find it amusing to know what happens to a corpse. Here’s a creepy question.
Do fingernails and hair really keep growing after death?
It’s grotesque to think of a question like this but oh well. The answer is ‘not for long’. It’s fascinating to some people who worry about the dead. It’s actually a myth.
Nails and hair may appear to keep growing, but this is because flesh shrinks as it dries out, retracting the skin to make the nails and hair appear longer. There is little truth to this though. When someone’s heart stops beating their brain cells die very quickly, but cells that use less oxygen can live a little longer, reports BBC.
So, it may be that hair and nails grow tiny after death. Unless you yourself want to see it grow for yourself by examining a dead relative for a week or two.
