Teenagers in Phoenix USA, have developed a new craze to become Santa Clauses’ helpers, the Christmas elves, while some want to play as pixies in Harry Potter. Young adults are amused by a new cosmetic surgery in which the top outer part of their ears are made pointy like Spock’s from Star Trek, called ‘Elfin Ears’. The procedure involves slitting open the cartilage at the top of the ears and sewing them back together to create a point, reports Huff Post. Steve Haworth, a three dimensional artist charges $600 for a pair of ears. The surgery is painful because Haworth, who is not a doctor, can’t use anesthetic on his patients. An actual doctor knows that changing important body parts such as ears can result into an infection and destroy them within days. But who can stop teens from doing what they want?
Jordan Houtz, who’s had it done, remarked, “It was just something I thought would be fascinating…I wouldn’t go so far as saying [I'm] a Trekkie, but definitely ‘Lord of the Rings,’ all the Sci Fi kind of stuff, and it just fit my personality.”
The dangerous part of this twenty-minute surgery is that once it’s done, it can’t be undone. Even if doctors tried to redo the ears, they would never be able to get the perfect shape back. So, you might want to think more than twice before you want to look like a leprechaun.
