Going Mobile – The Good, the Bad & the Ugly!
If ever aliens descend to Earth (considering they haven’t, so far) and take a look at the rates of mobile companies in the country, they would make the following deductions. First, the youth of Pakistan doesn’t sleep. Second, their parents don’t care what they do as far as the get good grades, and third, the most profitable business in the country is that of cellular companies. Their deductions would not be illogical to say the least. The calling rates of cellular companies in Pakistan are so low that anyone can get them, and make the life of others miserable on phones, without ever getting caught. Making crank calls is one of the oldest way to have fun in the world, and since our youth always cherishes things that have happened in the past, they still love to call late and disturb others. Only 5 percent of Pakistan’s youth stays awake late for purposes besides calling others. You would be more worthy of a mention if you had a girlfriend/boyfriend because that would be way too cool, wouldn’t it? If you think the above part was came in the Bad category, think again. Those who have no chance of getting good grades ever are the ones who call up their Facebook friends late at night and either meet at a rendezvous or discuss the possibilities of one – all on call. The rise in suicide rates in Pakistan especially can be attributed to the depression caused by a breakup (with a partner you haven’t seem or met) or by rejection of a girl (or a boy, if you are from the opposite sex – although nowadays it doesn’t matter!) So what could be worse than what has been discussed above? Nearly every other person in the country has a mobile phone, be it a mason, a gardener, a businessman or a bus driver. In the 90s, carrying a mobile was considered big, but nowadays, it makes you an easy target for the ‘mobile-snatchers.’ They attack you when you are alone and most vulnerable, and if you try to act smart by hiding your prized possession, they take away your life. With nothing to stop them, they thrive on selling the mobile phones you bought with your hard-earned money, damaging your self-confidence and belief in everything! Those who have had such encounters will concur, the others should be thankful for not having met them! Parents are the ones to blame the most in this mindless-yet-thriving business of mobile phones. I still remember that in my youth, there was only one landline in the house and we were supposed to stay away from it at night. The only way we could access it without the elders getting noticed was via a modem, that too in the late 90s! Nowadays, the parents believe in the freedom of speech which directly means ‘call your friends whenever you like’ or ‘we don’t care who you talk to, we just want you to get good grades.’ They should realize that keeping your kids in check is the best way to keeping them sane, because the freedom they have today is not only too hot for them to handle, it will take them down as well.
