Moby Dick comes to town

On the 7th Febuary 2012 a seven ton and forty foot whale shark washed ashore on the Karachi harbor which was originally discovered in Gadani waters of Balochistan. The Karachi fish harbor authority (KFHA) took more than four hours to just lift the carcass of the dead whale shark with the help of cranes. It has been said that it will be set out for auction as fish trash in the next three days by the owner. How can a something that one had life be owned by a man? Does it make sense to you because it really does not to me?

The dead whale shark whale was abused by the public; people were seen kicking it, standing on it, spitting on it and doing much more. It is really the height of insensitivity in people. Animal rights have been covered so many times before but it is never enough. An animal is also a living thing then why don’t people treat it like one.

The whale shark also had a life and after its death it should have been buried or discarded back into the sea, instead of made a public spectacle of. Nobody has the right to claim ownership of a living thing under any circumstance let alone to auction it and make money of it. Isn’t that some degree of abuse as well?

Worldwide people spend a fortune buying exotic pets either for themselves, or display at bird parks, zoos and aquariums. They take an animal out of their natural habitat and put them in a much smaller man made cage. How is that fair to them? Young baby animals are taken away from their parents and sold off. Most of the time their owners do not treat them right and they become victims of cruelty. Is anyone willing to raise their voice against animal abuse, whether they are dead or alive?

Do you agree with how the dead whale shark that was found off the Karachi shores  is going to be auctioned and made money off? Do you agree with how animals are sold and bought worldwide for whatever purpose other than for food? shouldn’t we put a stop to this and help speak for those who can’t speak up for themselves?
